Dr. S. Jaishankar also extended his warm wishes to Egypt on its National Day in a letter highlighting the strong relationship between Delhi and Cairo. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Dr. Jaishankar said:
"Warm greetings to FM Dr. Badr Abdelatty, the government and people of the Arab Republic of Egypt on their National Day. Look forward to strengthening our Strategic Partnership."
The message was sent to Egypt’s Foreign Minister, Dr. Badr Abdelatty, and expressed India’s best wishes to the Egyptian government and its citizens. Such diplomatic exchanges on national occasions are great gestures of goodwill and strengthen the close ties between the two countries.
India and Egypt have centuries-old civilizational ties that have blossomed into an integrated modern partnership that covers diplomacy, trade, defence, education, energy, culture and technology. In recent years, bilateral relations have been very active with regular high-level visits and a common vision for regional and global cooperation.
When India and Egypt came into a Strategic Partnership in 2023 in the context of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s State Visit to Cairo, the relationship took off. Since then, both countries have been actively working to foster cooperation in sectors that will be of strategic and economic importance in the long term.
Trade is one of the strongest points of the relationship. India is one of Egypt’s top trading partners, and bilateral trade covers petroleum products, chemicals, engineering goods, textiles, pharmaceuticals, agricultural commodities and fertilizers. Indian companies have also expanded their presence in Egypt through investment in manufacturing, renewable energy, healthcare and infrastructure projects.
Defence cooperation has also increased dramatically. Joint military exercises, training exchanges, defence dialogues and discussions of expanding cooperation in defence manufacturing and security have deepened cooperation between the two countries. In addition, maritime cooperation in the Indian Ocean and Mediterranean has been a vital part of bilateral cooperation.
Energy is another area of cooperation. With both countries pursuing ambitious clean energy goals, they are examining renewable energy, green hydrogen, solar power and sustainable industrial development. Egypt’s position at the core of Africa, Europe and Asia, in turn, is a perfect fit for India’s growing global economic reach.
India and Egypt are also working closely on international issues through multilateral forums like the United Nations, the G20 and others. Both countries advocate for reforms in global governance, greater South-South cooperation, food and energy security, climate resilience, and a rules-based international order.
People-to-people links further strengthen the partnership. Cultural ties, educational collaborations, tourism and academic cooperation continue to help create mutual understanding between the two countries. India’s history of relations with Egypt dating back to the Non-Aligned Movement is a strong foundation for today's diplomatic collaboration.
Dr. Jaishankar’s National Day greetings underscore India’s desire to engage in a more meaningful partnership with Egypt in several domains. As global politics changes, India and Egypt are likely to work even more together to help regional stability, economic growth, technological innovation and sustainable development.
With regular diplomatic interaction and increased strategic cooperation, India and Egypt will take their partnership to new heights and benefit not only the people of the two countries but their region and world peace and prosperity as well.
