The victim has been identified as Kajalben Baraiya. Police arrested her 20-year-old live-in partner, Faisal alias Khatki, after she succumbed to her injuries during treatment on September 4.

According to police, Kajalben and Faisal had been living together for about 7 years and were staying on a footpath around the Bhavnagar ST bus stand. Police said the couple frequently quarrelled.

The Argument Escalates Into Fatal Assault

The incident took place between 3 pm and 4 pm on Sept. 3. Faisal confronted Kajalben and her friend Ravi Gohil after allegedly suspecting that the two were in a relationship, police said.

The argument apparently escalated rapidly. Faisal threw Kajalben to the ground and repeatedly punched and kicked her, causing serious injuries to her head and other parts of her body. Ravi attempted to intervene and was also assaulted and injured.

While police believe jealousy over a possible relationship is the reason behind it, Ravi said the immediate dispute was alcohol consumption, the report said. Police are looking into what led to the attack and the reasons behind it.

CCTV Captures Attack

The entire incident was recorded by CCTV cameras at the bus stand. The assault took place in a crowded public spot, and many people were present when it took place, the video showed.

Kajalben was rushed to Sir T Hospital after the attack. Despite treatment, she died on September 4 from her injuries.

Accused in Murder Case

Following a complaint filed by Kajalben's mother, police filed a murder case against Faisal and arrested him. CCTV footage has also been examined, and people connected to the incident have been questioned in the investigation.

City Deputy Superintendent of Police R.R. Singhal said Faisal has previous criminal cases involving robbery and physical assault. He had also been convicted previously for another offence.

Police soon began legal procedures and also conducted the post-mortem examination of Kajalben’s body. The investigation is now in progress into the details of what exactly happened and why the conflict took place, which was also the motivation of the attacker.

The case has shocked Bhavnagar, because the attack took place at a busy public transport site during daylight hours. Police are investigating the case, and more details will be given in the police case, he said.
