India’s long-standing support for a peaceful resolution to the Israel-Palestine conflict was once again highlighted when Palestinian Ambassador to India, Abdullah Abu Shawesh, reaffirmed New Delhi’s consistent backing of the two-state solution and its support for Palestine at the United Nations.
Ambassador Abdullah Abu Shawesh, from Delhi, praised India’s diplomatic position, saying that India has always supported the development of two sovereign states Israel and Palestine in peace and security, in the Middle East, which is why India is committed to two independent states (Israel and Palestine) and has continued to support each other in the name of peace and security.
In the context of different political developments in the Middle East, India’s approach is in line with a stable and peaceful atmosphere, he said.
According to the ambassador, India continues to support Palestine through resolutions at the United Nations General Assembly.
The ambassador said that around 12 to 14 resolutions concerning Palestine are adopted annually and India has always voted in favor of these measures. It is the matter of humanitarian assistance, rights of the Palestinian people, the status of occupied territories and efforts to achieve a peaceful settlement that is the focus of these resolutions.
Abu Shawesh said India's commitment to the two-state solution is unwavering and expressed confidence that New Delhi will continue to back this position in international forums. He said the two-state solution is the only practical and internationally recognized way to achieve lasting peace in the region.
India has long had good relations with Israel and Palestine as well. Relations between India and Israel have grown significantly over the past decade strategic, defense and economic but India has also continued to support the Palestinian cause as well. The Indian governments have repeatedly stressed that dialogue and diplomacy is the best means to resolve the decades-old conflict.

The two-state solution would lead to the creation of an independent Palestinian state which would be together with Israel peacefully on mutually acceptable territory. The proposal is supported by most of the world community and has been endorsed by numerous United Nations resolutions over the years.
India's well-balanced foreign policy has enabled it to remain engaged with both sides and have peace, stability, and respect for international law. Development and humanitarian assistance to Palestine has also been extended through infrastructure projects and education and healthcare programs as well as capacity-building projects.
The ambassador’s remarks come at a time when the Middle East is still in a state of political uncertainty and continues to see some violence. Calls from the international community for renewed diplomatic efforts are growing and many countries are calling for restarting talks so long as there is a peace agreement.
India has repeatedly said that any durable resolution has to happen through talks between Israel and Palestine and that it must address the legitimate aspirations and security concerns of both peoples.
Abdullah Abu Shawesh's comments underline India's responsibility as an international partner and a responsible global partner that is committed to dialogue, multilateral cooperation and peaceful conflict resolution. As talks continue at the international stage, India’s continued support of the two-state solution goes hand in hand with its position around regional stability and a transparent international order.
