The shooting, at Amigos Mexican Grill in Laurel, Md., drew a massive police response late Tuesday night amid all that frenzy.
A group of people, who were just congregating around a packed restaurant on Baltimore Avenue in the region in the immediate vicinity of an area that celebrates the big Cinco de Mayo celebration, had been in the vicinity when the shooting took place, and they testified on video-camera about their own lives.
Witnesses reported that they had noticed customers and passerby running for their lives when gunfire erupted. At least three people two men and a woman have been shot. Authorities have not yet confirmed the conditions and injuries. And on social media those posts brought higher eyes to both the restaurant and neighboring businesses from police officers as it was en route to stabilize those areas, and begin its investigation.
The Laurel Police Department has not issued a full official statement at the time; police officers at the scene stood for several hours, reviewing evidence and interviewing witnesses. Some witnesses said they had noticed the same dense area beyond the celebratory area surrounding Cinco de Mayo celebrations. Gunshots had been heard before men left the restaurant and nearby parking lots, according to several residents.
Some reported running into traffic jams when paramedics came; others vented their frustrations at the disorder. The violence that ensued, social media users reported being staggered and many wallowed in how fast the celebration pivoted. Some of the people most caught up in the gatherings at the time, during broad daylight, said they were afraid of both security and crowds.
Anyone who has any relevant information or a photo or video of the shooting is encouraged to call investigators in their search, officials said. No information has yet been discovered of the identity or motive of the suspect. Officials have been required to provide news, and the investigation is still ongoing.
