Al-Ahmed is being hailed nationwide for his courageous actions, which are credited with preventing further casualties.

The Prime Minister shared a photograph of his hospital visit on X, showing him shaking hands with Al-Ahmed. Albanese used the occasion to commend Al-Ahmed's selflessness and courage, unequivocally calling him "an Australian hero" who ran toward danger to protect others.

Confronting the Gunman

The attack occurred on Sunday evening around 6:45 PM during a public Hanukkah celebration at Bondi Beach. Two gunmen opened fire from a footbridge, targeting the crowd below.

Al-Ahmed, demonstrating immense presence of mind and courage, lunged at one of the attackers. He successfully wrestled the rifle away, disarming the assailant. Despite being shot twice during the confrontation, his intervention is widely believed to have saved numerous lives by neutralizing one of the immediate threats.

Nation's Deadliest Attack in Decades

The Bondi Beach incident has been described as one of Australia's deadliest gun attacks in decades. The Prime Minister’s visit underscores the nation's gratitude for Al-Ahmed’s decisive action and acknowledges the traumatic impact of the event on the community.
