Narendra Modi spoke at the International Space Summit on behalf of India on video conferencing in France and shared India’s vision for space exploration and international cooperation. In his address, Modi said India’s approach to space is based on the old principle of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” which means “the world is one family.”
The Prime Minister said the philosophy of “one Earth, one family, one future” should now extend beyond the planet. He said the rapidly expanding space sector should be focused on cooperation, sustainability and peaceful use of outer space.
PM Modi Emphasises Safe and Peaceful Space Domain
Modi called for a safe, secure, peaceful and sustainable space domain, anchored in international law, dialogue and multilateral cooperation. His comments come at a time when space is increasingly important for communication, navigation, weather forecasting, disaster management, scientific research and national security.
As more countries and private companies enter space, international cooperation will be key to their success, the Prime Minister said. Good and responsible norms and dialogue will make space accessible and sustainable for people and humanity, he added.
Scientific Data Should Serve the Common Good
Modi’s address also stressed the importance of scientific information and data. He said that scientific data should work for the common good and called for open and transparent sharing of scientific knowledge.
India has also become an active player in the global space ecosystem through its expanding space programme on lunar exploration, solar missions, satellite technology and human spaceflight.
The Prime Minister’s comments underline India’s argument that advances in space science should not be limited to individual national interests but should contribute to solutions to people throughout the world.

India’s Space Journey Reflects Its Global Vision
Modi said India’s space journey reflects the philosophy of cooperation and collective progress. Over the decades India’s space programme has evolved from developmental applications to ambitious exploration missions and participation in international space initiatives.
India’s successful moon missions, solar exploration and growing commercial space sector have strengthened its position in the global space community.
The Prime Minister’s address at the International Space Summit thus placed India’s achievements within a wider diplomatic vision in which technological advancement is interwoven with international responsibilities.
Looking Beyond Earth
