Hardoi, Uttar Pradesh: A domestic dispute over money allegedly turned fatal in Mayora village of the Hardoi district of Uttar Pradesh, where a 24-year-old woman, identified as Kiran, died after being physically assaulted by her husband Vishal Pal. Kiran was estimated to be around seven months pregnant at the time of the incident.
The incident is situated in Bilgram Kotwali and has led to a police investigation. The husband had been arrested after fleeing the scene, the police said.
Argument Over Money Turns Violent
According to the police information and the victim’s family, the incident took place on Tuesday evening, after Kiran and Vishal had an argument over money.
Kiran’s mother-in-law, Prema, said the dispute began after Vishal had asked his wife for an account of the money he had given her two days earlier. Prema said Kiran told her husband that she had ₹2,000 and she did not want to spend the entire amount on ration or other household items because money would also be needed later.
The argument allegedly turned into a physical assault. Vishal is said to have attacked Kiran with a wooden or bamboo stick.
When Prema tried to intervene, she was allegedly assaulted by her son as well.
Mother-in-Law Injured While Trying to Help
Prema said she tried to protect Kiran during the alleged assault but was pushed out of the house. She claimed that Vishal warned her against interfering and allegedly threatened her when she attempted to stop the violence.
Prema said she then sought help from people in the neighbourhood and finally contacted the emergency response service.
Neighbours reportedly heard screams from the house and contacted the police and ambulance services. Kiran was found seriously injured and was taken by ambulance to the Bilgram Community Health Centre.
Doctors at the health centre declared her dead after she was brought in for treatment.
The death of a woman who was seven months pregnant in this case has added to the seriousness of the situation, although the exact medical cause of death will be known after the post-mortem examination.
Police Begin Investigation
Additional Superintendent of Police (East), Hardoi, Subodh Gautam said police received information through Dial 112 at around 5 pm on the alleged assault.
According to Gautam, Kiran was assaulted by her husband with a wooden stick, and the police also got information that Vishal was allegedly under the influence of alcohol at the time.
Police arrived at the location after the alert and began proceedings according to law. The woman’s body was taken to the mortuary for post-mortem examination following the inquest.
Authorities also informed Kiran’s family at her maternal home about the incident.
Gautam said further legal action would be taken after receiving a formal complaint and proceeding with the investigation.
Family Alleges Earlier Incidents of Violence
Prema has also claimed that the incident was not an isolated episode of violence. She said Vishal had assaulted her in the past and had allegedly broken her hand.
She also alleged he had assaulted his father and sister on several occasions as well. These claims will be part of the investigation if formally included in the complaint and examined by authorities.
Prema also described her son as a labourer who works loading and unloading goods from trucks, including steel rods.
Investigation to Establish Full Circumstances
The police investigation will be able to establish the sequence of events leading to Kiran’s death, the nature of injuries she sustained and the circumstances surrounding the alleged assault.
The post-mortem examination will be very important to determine the medical cause of death and to document the injuries. Witnesses, family members and other people in or around the house may also be considered as part of the investigation.
The allegations made by Prema and other family members will need to be corroborated through evidence as the legal process proceeds.
