President Droupadi Murmu will embark on a state visit to Moldova, North Macedonia, and Romania from July 19 to 25, 2026. The visit will be another step in the drive to deepen India's engagement with Europe. The week-long diplomatic tour will also strengthen bilateral relations to boost economic participation and to strengthen India’s deep-rooted strategic ties with the three European countries.
The visit underlines New Delhi’s continuing focus on improving political dialogue and partnership in areas like trade, investment, technology, education, healthcare, agriculture, culture, and people-to-people exchanges. President Murmu will hold talks with the Presidents, Prime Ministers, and other senior leaders in Moldova, North Macedonia, and Romania during the tour in the first place. The talks might include regional and global developments as well as new ways to collaborate in areas of mutual interest.
Romania remains one of India’s key partners in Eastern Europe. International relations have been improving steadily over the years, and cooperation spans information technology, defense, energy, pharmaceuticals, manufacturing, education, and skilled workforce mobility. Both countries are keen on developing trade, investment, and innovation-driven partnerships.
India has good diplomatic relations with Moldova through cooperation in agriculture, pharmaceuticals, information technology, education, and capacity building. The visit will help to build up bilateral ties and to develop more economic cooperation between the two countries.
North Macedonia is also a friendly partner of India with more opportunities for trade, tourism, digital technologies, education, and cultural exchanges. And there is also potential for new cooperation and institutional ties to be forged through high-level discussions during the trip.
The President’s itinerary is expected to consist of ceremonial receptions, official meetings, delegation-level discussions, business community engagement, and cultural and educational exchanges. Such visits frequently bring about the signing of MoUs and agreements that further cement bilateral cooperation.
The visit should also come at a time when India is expanding its diplomatic presence in Europe. New Delhi has been strengthening relations with European countries with trade as well as strategic cooperation, technology cooperation, and cooperation on issues such as climate change, energy security, and digital development over the past few years.
Analysts say that the tour shows India’s commitment to diversifying international partnerships so as to remain a responsible global stakeholder. Greater engagement with Central and Eastern European countries is expected to increase trade, investment flows, academic cooperation, and innovation partnerships.
The visit also highlights India’s overall foreign policy objective of building mutually beneficial relationships with countries across the world. India has to build relations with Moldova, North Macedonia, and Romania to expand its diplomatic reach and to work towards the common objectives of economic development, sustainable development, and international cooperation.
As President Murmu begins her state visit, the engagements will likely strengthen India's ties with the three European countries and promote new avenues for cooperation in areas that are very much of commerce and technology as well as culture and global governance.
