The outbreak has been traced back to a “super-spreader” event at Club Chemistry, a popular nightclub in Canterbury, where large gatherings, close contact, and shared items such as drinks and vapes are believed to have accelerated transmission.
Tragically, the outbreak has already claimed two young lives, including a university student and a teenager, highlighting the severity of the infection. Meningitis B, the strain identified in most cases, is a serious bacterial disease that affects the brain and spinal cord and can become life-threatening if not treated quickly.
