Om Prakash’s lottery ticket sold for ₹500 at a store in the bustling Ghanta Ghar district of Ludhiana. His ticket at B 520729 was the winning entry in the April 19 draw. Then the announcement, overnight, altered his life: it was years’ worth of hope becoming a new reality.

A Habit For Three Decades

Equal to the uplift of this tale, Om Prakash is an elderly lottery ticket purchaser. He had played chicanery for almost 20 years buying tickets through relatives, or when he went to Ludhiana. He was a regular street visitor, dropping by some in-laws, and on one of the visits, he purchased the winning ticket. It has since worked out, and the persistence and patience shown, and he is today a beacon of hope to many who have dared to try again in the face of relentless failures.

Celebration in Ludhiana

Om Prakash came back to Ludhiana to formalise when the results were revealed. Local governments welcomed him, and residents hailed and celebrated. The word permeated the city about how he had won. The ticket was verified and confirmed, and then the lottery claim proceedings began.

Plans for the Prize Money

Om Prakash and his family, in addition to the surprise windfall, have taken a sober, generous stance. With a sizable percentage of the prize money going to charitable causes, they have opted not only to put their pocket money to work. The family said the funds would be used for support for the poor in Ludhiana and nearby areas. One thing they had very concretely mentioned is that they will take care of orphanages and those with no means, like basic needs and school. Socially giving is something Om Prakash has appreciated all his life, and his fortune allows him to contribute to the lives of other people.

A Tale of Luck and Charity

This story in India is a heart-rending tale about success, and as luck turns out not only what one gets by luck but perseverance combined with the story itself, a heartwarming one, but it goes on to produce also elements of persistence, kindness and the like. A lottery on this scale changes one's life; even so, though, Om Prakash's sharing of his fortunes again shows how it’s possible to have little fortune for little good. Yet his story is destined to set the tone for many as he enters this new phase of his life, not just setting big dreams but remembering to help people when fate leaves you smiling.
