Anthropic has launched India-specific pricing for its Claude AI subscription plans -- which is a major step in entering one of the world’s fastest-growing artificial intelligence markets. Now Indian users can subscribe to Claude AI in Indian rupees instead of US dollars and use the service at a lower cost.
A new pricing structure puts the Claude Pro plan at Rs 2,000 per month annually, and monthly billing will be around Rs 2,399 per month. Anthropic has also introduced localized pricing for its higher-tier Claude Max and Claude Team plans, targeting power users, developers, startups and enterprise customers.
India has emerged as Anthropic’s second-largest market after the United States in just a few years, and generative AI has become increasingly prevalent in India in sectors such as education, software, and research. The introduction of rupee-based pricing will simplify subscriptions for Indian customers who previously had to use international cards and pay in US dollars, and often incur more foreign exchange fees.
The localized pricing is being rolled out gradually across Claude's website and mobile applications. Although subscriptions are now billed in rupees, reports indicate that users may still need to pay through supported card payment methods, and broader local payment options are expected to be available in the future.
Claude AI has gained popularity for its advanced reasoning, long-context capabilities, coding support, writing support, document analysis, and enterprise-focused AI tools. Anthropic has positioned Claude as a strong competitor to other leading AI assistants and has multiple model tiers that are intended for both casual users and professional users.
The Claude Pro subscription offers more usage limits than the free version, more advanced Claude models, priority access during peak demand, and other productivity features. Businesses and larger teams can choose Claude Team with collaborative workspaces, centralized administration, and enhanced security features. Claude Max is targeted at users who need much higher usage limits to handle AI-heavy workloads.
Industry experts believe Anthropic’s decision to introduce India-specific pricing is indicative of the country’s significance in the global AI ecosystem. India has become a critical hub for AI developers, startups, and businesses using generative AI technologies, and pricing is an important competitive step.
The announcement also comes as the AI market in India is in a competitive state, with global technology companies bringing new products to the market that are attractive to businesses, students, developers, and creators. Anthropic is likely to help to promote Claude AI in India, remove currency conversion hurdles, and provide transparent pricing in rupees.
As AI is more and more integrated into daily workflows, software development, education, and business operations, local subscription models will have a major impact on accessibility. Anthropic’s move is an indication of its commitment to the Indian market and strengthens its position in the rapidly evolving generative AI space.
