The Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (BESCOM) has announced a scheduled power outage for tomorrow, Friday, December 19, 2025. Residents in several parts of the city, particularly in the West Zone, should prepare for disruptions lasting up to 12 hours as critical infrastructure maintenance reaches its final phase.
As part of an ongoing week-long infrastructure upgrade, BESCOM is set to carry out emergency maintenance and capacity enhancement work at the Byadarahalli Power Distribution Centre. These works are essential for modernizing the grid and preventing frequent transformer failures during the peak winter months.
Affected Areas (10:00 AM to 10:00 PM)
The most significant impact will be felt in the Byadarahalli and Sunkadakatte regions, where power will be suspended for a full 12-hour window. The affected localities include:
- Key Residential Areas: Madeshwaranagar, Prasanna Layout, Hosahalli, Tunganagar, Vishweshwara Nagar, Anjana Nagar, and Annapoorneshwari Nagar.
- Industrial Zones: Nadakerappa Industrial Area, Padmavati Industrial Area, and Sunkadakatte Industrial Area.
- Localities: Herohalli, Gollarahatti, Kempegowda Nagar, Nilgiri Hegganahalli, Kodigehalli, Skanda Nagar, Chikkagollarhatti, Seegehalli, and surrounding BBMP plants.
Secondary Outages (10:00 AM to 6:00 PM)
Additionally, 8-hour outages are expected in parts of North and East Bengaluru due to line-shifting work and pole maintenance along the Double Road project:
- Prabhakar Layout, Gundappa Layout, Anjani Layout, and Ashraya Layout.
- Bagepalli Circle, Tank Bund Road, and Teachers Colony.
Reason for the Outage
According to BESCOM officials, the primary objective of this shutdown is to increase the converter and transformer capacity at the Byadarahalli station. This upgrade is designed to handle the growing load in Western Bengaluru and reduce long-term voltage fluctuations.
Precautionary Measures for Residents
- Water Storage: Ensure overhead tanks are filled by 9:00 AM, as water pumps will not be operational during the 12-hour window.
- Device Preparation: Charge laptops, power banks, and UPS systems in advance, especially for those working from home.
- Emergency Contact: For real-time updates or to report faults, call the BESCOM helpline at 1912.
