Bank branches in India, including those of State Bank of India (SBI), HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Punjab National Bank (PNB), Axis Bank, Bank of Baroda, Canara Bank, Union Bank of India and other public and private sector lenders will be closed for 14 days during the month due to weekends and regional festivals.

It is important to note that not all holidays apply nationwide. Sundays, the second Saturday, the fourth Saturday and Independence Day are observed in India but different state/city holidays are specific based on local festivals and cultural events. We would encourage customers to check local holiday schedules before visiting their bank branch.

Despite branch closures, digital banking services such as internet banking, mobile banking, UPI, IMPS, NEFT (as applicable), ATMs, debit cards, credit cards and cash deposit machines will continue to operate normally, so customers can carry out most banking transactions online.

What customers should keep in mind?

Customers who plan to deposit cheques, withdraw large amounts of cash, update passbooks, complete KYC formalities, or visit bank branches for loan or investment-related services should visit their bank branches on working days. Because there are many holidays in the latter half of the month, in many states bank branches may be closed for consecutive days.

But digital banking has dramatically reduced the dependence on physical branches. UPI payments, online fund transfers, mobile banking apps, ATM withdrawals, credit card payments, fixed deposit bookings, balance inquiries, and utility bill payments will continue to be available even during holidays. That said, transactions requiring in-person verification or branch assistance might take longer to be verified the next day.

Business owners and salaried individuals are also advised to plan salary processing, vendor payments, cheque clearances and other time-sensitive banking activities in advance to avoid inconvenience caused by holiday closures.

Holidays differ from state to state and city to city and customers should verify the holiday list for their location before going to the branch for a visit. Planning ahead can help avoid last-minute delays and make it as smooth as possible during August 2026.
