Five Booked for Allegedly Assaulting Police During Crackdown on Dangerous Car Racing at Kerala School Ground

Fearing a group of students escaping from government and government school at Pallikara for the sixth time, five people have been arrested for allegedly assaulting police officers who intervened to stop dangerous car racing in P.K. government school in Bekal, Kerala. A police report came on Tuesday evening on the grounds of Pallikara Government Higher Secondary School, where cars were seen to be speeding in the vicinity of students leaving the campus.

According to the police, the case was registered based on a suo motu First Information Report (FIR) filed by Bekal Inspector M.K. Anilkumar.

Police Responded to Complaints

According to the report, the incident began at 4:30 p.m. when police reported several cars were performing stunts in the school compound and the school was being threatened.

A police team led by Probationary Sub-Inspector Prince John rushed to the scene and ordered the drivers to stop racing and to clear out their vehicles from the premises.

Officers Allegedly Assaulted

According to the FIR, the situation worsened when officers stopped one of the drivers and asked the driver to step out for questioning.

Police claim the driver responded aggressively by using abusive language, grabbing SI Prince John by the collar, pushing him, and punching him in the chest.

Another accused allegedly attacked the officer with a car key, injuring his hand before twisting his arm, knocking him to the ground, and kicking him.

The FIR also states that Civil Police Officer (CPO) Arjun, who tried to protect the officer, was also assaulted. Another officer, CPO Krishnankutty, was also attacked in the incident.

Inspector Also Allegedly Targeted

Police said that even after Inspector M.K. Anilkumar arrived and added some armed personnel to the scene, the accused continued to obstruct police work. The group is also alleged to have attempted to push the inspector down on the ground and resist police action.

When the confrontation intensified, officers used the force needed to get all the people out of the situation and took five people into custody.

The injured SI Prince John was transported to a hospital for medical treatment.

Police identified the accused as:

Muhammad Shijas (26)  
Isthiyaq Mahmood (25)  
Muhammad Khais (26)  
C.V. Thasleem (29)  

The identities were confirmed during police questioning.

Vehicles Seized

Police seized multiple vehicles involved in the illegal racing activity as part of the investigation. The seized vehicles were taken to the Bekal Police Station for further examination.

The vehicles will be examined for evidence associated with the alleged offenses, and owners’ details will be verified.

Investigation Underway

The case has been registered under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Kerala Police Act, including charges of unlawful assembly, obstruction of public servants from discharging their official duties, assault on police officers, rioting, criminal intimidation, and other applicable offences.

Police said scientific and forensic evidence of the event is being collected and CCTV footage and witness statements are being collected in order to reconstruct the sequence of events.

The police added that reckless driving and illegal racing in public places (especially near educational institutions) is dangerous and will be taken seriously. The investigation is ongoing, and legal action may follow based on the evidence collected, they said.
