The product is intended to be quick and responsive to help women commuters who are travelling alone between 10:00 PM and 6:00 AM.

Such a feature is in place because we already know the late-night train journey is often full of problems for the passengers’ safety and the new feature is designed to protect women passengers.

In an emergency or uncomfortable situation, passengers can use the SOS option on the app to seek help on the phone with just one tap.

SOS assistance just a Tap Away

The initiative enables women travelling alone during the night time period of the Yatri App to receive emergency aid via the Yatri App. Instead of searching for help or calling multiple times in the app, passengers can take advantage of the SOS facility directly from the application.

The feature is intended to make women feel more confident while travelling at night. Central Railway has advised passengers to be alert and use the facility whenever they feel unsafe or need immediate help.

The SOS function complements the wider move to make technology more available to the passengers.

Mobile applications can give railway authorities a convenient means of connecting passengers with assistance services during their journey, on trips where immediate assistance may not be available.

So Safety at Night: Safer Travel

Women traveling alone late at night may become concerned about harassment, medical emergencies or other unforeseen difficulties. A more readily accessible SOS button can aid in this effort.

It is aimed at women travelling alone from 22:00 to 06:00 hours. Passengers are still advised to be cautious, to keep an eye out and take basic safety precautions.

It also emphasizes the increasing implementation of digital platforms for passenger experience. Safety features for railway services that use app-based facilities can make travel more convenient and passengers can also have a lot of support.

Central Railway Encourages Passengers To Stay Alert

Because the SOS feature is a safety feature of the platform, it is not necessary to rely on technology in emergencies for women traveling alone.

Women traveling alone should charge their phones and be aware of their surroundings, and contact trusted contacts when they can.

The message from Central Railway is simple: travel without fear, stay alert and seek help when required. The SOS facility available through the Yatri App means women passengers travelling during late-night hours now have another tool to turn to if they need help.

The initiative might boost women’s confidence in the very idea of travelling by train in the late hours of their day to do work, to study and travel around the world.

Through technology and passenger awareness, railway authorities aim to make night travelling safe for women.
