The deceased, Shrinidhi Santosh Navi, who, after suffering domestic abuse and harassment as a result of dowry demands, became severely distressed, is the subject of this account. Investigators said she died by hanging herself on the first floor of the home that she lived in, which is believed to have given room for the children of six months, according to the criminal justice system.

Using a window grill, she committed the deed, authorities said. Shrinidhi married Santosh in 2021. But the marriage, apparently, had been rocky, with arguing between the husband and wife all the time. She had allegedly faced mental and emotional harassment that eventually led her to make the drastic decision, it was reported.

Shrinidhi had also reportedly not been able to contact her parental family. Her mobile phone was seized, she was informed, so she could not get help or express her distress. Her mental state, it seems, suffered a lot from isolation, not to mention endless fighting between her husband and wife.

After the incident, the woman’s family notified the husband, mother-in-law, and two other relatives of dowry harassment, filing a complaint against them. From the complaint, a case of dowry harassment and domestic abuse under respective sections was registered by the police.

Officials at the APMC Police Station have initiated the investigation. The husband was arrested; detectives are continuing to ascertain who may have been involved with other accused persons in the complaint. But the case once again revealed that in India today, while laws try to eliminate such conduct with finality and rigour, dowry can also be a form of harassment.

Activists want to demonstrate how social workers advocate for public awareness, strict enforcement, and protection for victims of domestic violence. Neighbours and citizens were shocked by the episode, which they said unfolded on such a tragic scale. The very young children were left behind.

The community is calling for urgent justice and stronger measures to ensure similar incidents do not repeat, and the same does not happen in the future. The police said they will conduct a full investigation and if they find evidence, they will take legal action. Meanwhile, the family of the deceased is seeking justice, grieving their loved one’s abrupt departure.
