The Bengaluru Central Crime Branch (CCB) has managed to arrest the notorious rowdy sheeter Dikshit Shetty, who has been evading the police for the past five years with a long-running manhunt.
According to police officials, Dikshit Shetty is a history-sheeter registered at Ashok Nagar Police Station and is wanted in more than five criminal cases. Police said he had gone underground since fleeing, making repeated attempts to escape arrest, and continued to engage in unlawful activities.
During the years in hiding, Dikshit Shetty was involved in underworld-related activities and other illegal activities, investigators alleged. Police have not yet disclosed the full extent of these activities, but are still investigating his network of associates and whether he may have been involved in further criminal activity.
The arrest was made after an extensive intelligence-based operation by the Bengaluru CCB. Officers followed the accused with regular surveillance, technical analysis, and field intelligence before finally finding and tracking him down.
Police sources say the operation was meticulous in nature because the accused changed locations frequently in order to escape detection. The successful arrest will provide investigators with valuable information about criminal networks operating in and around Bengaluru.
Now Dikshit Shetty has been taken into police custody and will be quizzed on the pending criminal cases against him. But the investigators are also investigating whether he was involved in any fresh offences while he was missing.
Bengaluru Police have been stepping up their efforts to tackle history-sheeters and organized crime in recent months, and the police have been stepping up enforcement. A long-absconding suspect is expected to take centre stage in the police’s actions to send a strong message to habitual offenders who are breaking the law.
Prosecutors also want to know if any individuals or criminal groups were involved in helping the accused to hide out for so long. If support is found where there is evidence of that support, then more action can be taken against those involved.
Police have stated their commitment to pursuing all absconding accused and bringing in people wanted in criminal cases. The investigation will be updated once the accused are questioned, and the results of the first interrogation are out.
