Bengaluru East Additional Commissioner Lokhande Snehal Sudhakar inspected several ongoing infrastructure development works in Bengaluru East City Corporation and advised the officials to speed up development work and get it done by the end of the day. Road development, flyovers, drainage, traffic management, utility shifting, land acquisition, and other works to enhance mobility and reduce inconvenience to residents were all among those inspected.
Officials were advised by the inspection to speed up road and flyover works in Varthur and Gunjur, which are two rapidly developing areas where traffic is increasing, and construction is still going on. The Additional Commissioner directed the staff in the relevant departments to prioritize the work being undertaken and not to procrastinate too much, and to make sure that projects are not delayed before any progress is made.
As for road safety and traffic management, road safety and traffic movement were also very critical to be discussed. Potholes should be repaired, and vehicles should have smooth and safe access on roads affected by ongoing infrastructure works. Where there is available road space, public transport and temporary motorable roads should be utilized and provided so that commuters do not have to travel in areas with damaged or blocked roads.
The stormwater drainage was another concern during the inspection. Proper drainage was made in Gunjur Palya-Muneshwara Swamy Temple and Gunjur Main Road. When heavy rainfall occurs, proper drainage is essential, and blocked or inadequate drains can cause waterlogging of roads and affect traffic.
The Additional Commissioner also reviewed land acquisition and possession issues for major road projects. The officials were ordered to speed up the processes so infrastructure projects with the right supply of land are not delayed any further. Coordination between departments was encouraged to alleviate issues of project implementation.
Utility shifting was another critical part of the review. The authorities in the concerned agencies were asked to coordinate and expedite the shifting of electric poles, transformers, cables and other utilities which could be obstructing the work of infrastructure. There are often delays in relocating the utilities, which can hold up road-widening and other major development projects, making interdepartmental coordination critical for timely completion.
Gunjur and Panathur traffic management measures were also evaluated. In addition to that, officials were asked to identify possible measures like service roads, free left turns and connecting roads to improve traffic flow to better connect the areas where rapid residential and commercial development is taking place.
The inspection also covered the removal of construction debris, waste and accumulated silt from roads and drains. Such obstructions were to be removed as soon as possible so as to keep roads and drains open and drainage capacity intact. Removal of debris and silt is particularly important at a time when one or several projects are being done simultaneously on the road that has a variety of people working through it.
Kundalahalli Colony and along ITPL Main Road’s footpaths, drains and slabs were ordered to be repaired. These works should also assist in pedestrian safety and help to address the infrastructure deficiencies in the local communities and the daily lives of the people living there and commuting from there.
The Additional Commissioner also directed the departments to take precautions to avoid public inconvenience while works are ongoing. Construction activities should be conducted in a way that not only allows access to the site but also minimizes disruption to traffic and pedestrians.
The overall goal was to prioritize urgent works and complete all pending projects without delay. The inspection is on the way as Bengaluru East is at an ever-increasing speed of urbanization and roads, drainage systems and traffic networks are under pressure.
Officials from the Karnataka Road Development Corporation Limited (KRDCL), Bengaluru Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB), Bengaluru Electricity Supply Company Limited (BESCOM), Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Limited (KPTCL) and various departments of Bengaluru East City Corporation were present during the inspection.
A coordinated review involving multiple civic and infrastructure agencies shows the need for faster execution and better interdepartmental coordination. Varthur, Gunjur, Panathur, Kundalahalli and the ITPL corridor are all experiencing significant development and traffic; hence, infrastructure works will have to be completed promptly to improve connectivity, road safety and overall mobility in Bengaluru East.
The authorities have now put the emphasis on completing major projects but also on addressing immediate problems such as potholes, damaged footpaths, blocked drains, construction debris and traffic bottlenecks. How effective these directions will be will also depend on how quickly the agencies implement the measures and resolve the current problems on the ground.
