Residents of Bengaluru have been advised to prepare for intense heat as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that temperatures in the city could rise to around 39°C in the coming days.
The warning comes as several parts of Karnataka experience unusually high temperatures for this time of the year, prompting health authorities to issue precautionary guidelines for the public.
IMD Forecasts Rising Temperatures
According to IMD officials, Bengaluru and surrounding regions may witness a sharp rise in daytime temperatures due to clear skies and dry weather conditions. Meteorologists say the mercury could reach close to 39°C, significantly higher than the city’s usual March averages.
Experts warn that such temperatures can increase the risk of heat-related illnesses, especially for children, elderly people and those working outdoors.
Health Department Issues Advisory
In response to the forecast, the Karnataka Health Department has released a set of safety guidelines urging residents to take precautions during peak heat hours.
The advisory recommends:
- Avoid going outdoors between 12 PM and 3 PM when temperatures are at their highest.
- Drink plenty of water and fluids to stay hydrated.
- Wear light-colored, loose clothing to reduce heat exposure.
- Use caps, umbrellas, or scarves while stepping outside.
- Pay special attention to children, elderly citizens, and people with medical conditions.
Risk of Heat-Related Illness
Health experts warn that prolonged exposure to extreme heat can lead to conditions such as heat exhaustion and heatstroke. Symptoms may include dizziness, headache, nausea, dehydration, and fatigue.
Authorities have advised people experiencing such symptoms to seek medical help immediately.
Authorities Monitoring Situation
Officials said they are closely monitoring weather conditions and will issue further alerts if temperatures continue to rise. Residents are encouraged to stay updated with official weather bulletins and follow precautionary measures to stay safe during the heatwave.
With summer approaching, Bengaluru is expected to witness more days of intense heat, making early precautions essential for public health and safety.
