A tense verbal confrontation took place near Bengaluru’s Old Airport Road after a Kannada cab driver and a Hindi-speaking female passenger got into a heated dispute over a drop-off location. The incident began when the woman, who had booked a cab from BTM Layout to HAL, reached the location marked on the app, but her specific hotel was not immediately visible. The driver spent approximately 20 minutes searching for the exact address as requested by the woman, but without success.
Dispute Over Payment and New Booking
When the driver informed the passenger that they had reached the booked stop and subsequently accepted a new booking, the situation quickly escalated. The woman refused to exit the cab or pay the outstanding fare, leading to a loud argument. The dispute reached a flashpoint when the Hindi-speaking woman began hurling insults at the driver, repeatedly using the abusive term "Nonsense!" and refusing to settle the bill.
Abuse and Threats from the Passenger
The verbal fight intensified as the woman continued to lash out at the Kannada driver, directing a continuous stream of abusive language at him. Adding to the confrontation, the passenger allegedly threatened the driver, stating she would not pay the money under any circumstances. The driver, visibly frustrated and harassed by the woman's aggressive demeanor and threats, attempted to reason with her about the payment.
Passenger Escapes Without Paying the Fare
The confrontation reached a climax with the Hindi-speaking woman's brazen display of arrogance (darpa). After the extended argument and refusing to pay the required fare, the woman abruptly exited the cab and fled the scene. The driver was left unpaid and subjected to verbal abuse, highlighting the vulnerabilities faced by cab drivers when dealing with unruly passengers and payment disputes, particularly in high-tension traffic situations in the city.
