A traffic accident on the Bengaluru–Hosur Highway, next to Electronic City, on Friday. It rattled commuters and put a driver who was out of control after hitting a road divider into overdrive. Thank goodness, the accident did not harm or kill people.
The accident occurred at moderate speed in the vehicle (the Maruti Eeco), and it was mostly caused by a driver appearing to lose his control. Actually, the driver may have gone wrong while being drowsy or asleep. The vehicle suddenly veered and hit the divider head-on, the witnesses said.
The damage was severe enough to smash the front of the car. The bonnet and entire frontal section of the vehicle were horrifically crushed, evidencing the level of impact. Iron rods through the divider yanked the car awkwardly aside. The rods had gone into the front of the car and were very difficult to pull back.
Passers-by and residents descended on the scene to tell the police about the crash. Rescue was challenging, and the car needed to be properly removed from the metal scaffolding on the divider and disconnected. And it still required a lot of effort and time to pull it out safely, and in many ways, it could not have caused further damage or harm to people.
The car is wrecked, and the crash was extremely destructive, but the safety of the people inside was assured. No one had died or been severely injured, officials said, a fact many referred to as a “miracle,” given the damage the car had done within minutes of the crash. There was an abrupt halt by cars close to the scene, and they briefly stopped traffic after the incident.
Law enforcement had to mediate and clear the road for car traffic to resume without much mess or chaos. Initial indications indicate the driver’s fatigue was probably involved. “Drowsy driving makes it dangerous!” That’s a common problem, notably on highways, where constant speed and extended time on the road can take a toll on alertness while they are driving.
Sounds like a good example for responsible drivers not to be in their seat and to slow down when tired. Resting properly on any long journey also helps prevent similar incidents from recurring. Investigators are examining what exactly caused the crash, while at high speeds, drivers were cautioned to stay careful on highways, including Bengaluru–Hosur Highway, police said.
