Many of Bengaluru’s residents and its adjacent districts should be aware of the possibility of big power outages over the weekend. Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Limited (KPTCL) and Bangalore Electricity Supply Company Limited (BESCOM) have issued plans for outages on Saturday (Feb 7) and Sunday (Feb 8) for the purpose of urgent maintenance and infrastructure upgradation.
The disruptions will hit mainly the Chandapura, Peenya, Jalahalli and Chikkaballapur divisions. The majority of areas will be shut down during a 7-hour service, the most frequent times being 10 AM to 5 PM.
Saturday, February 7: Sporadic Area Impacted (10 AM to 5 PM)
Saturday's maintenance activities will only concentrate on Chandapura branch, affecting some critical suburban and rural areas:

Sunday, Feb. 8: Mega Maintenance Day
Sunday will see a general blackout across the multiple divisions, including industrial hubs and neighboring areas.
1. Chandapura & Jigani Divisions (11 AM – 5 PM). Substations: Sarjapura Rural, Bommasandra, Jigani Rural, Attibele, and Jigani Link. Location: Sarjapura, Billapura, Bidaraguppe, Attibele, Bommasandra, Jigani Industrial Area, Koppa Village, Nisarga Layout, Madalingapura, Vaddarapalya, Kallubalu, Ambedkar Industrial Area and Haragadde.
2. Peenya & Jalahalli Divisions (10 AM – 5 PM). Substations: Platinum City, SRS and Abbigere. Peenya Highlights: Reliance Industries Area, CMTI, Peenya Police Station Road, Telephone Exchange, Ganapatinagar, KHB Layout, Rajajinagar (parts), ESI Hospital and Platinum City Apartments. Jalahalli Highlights: Kammagondanahalli, Raghavendra Layout, Lakshmipura, Abbigere Industrial Area, Singapura, Pipeline Road, and Kuvempu Nagar.
3. Chikkaballapur & Kanakapura (10 AM – 5 PM). Chikkaballapur: Chikkaballapur Town, Industrial Area, Gudibande, Viduraswatha, Bagepalli, Solar IPP sites. Kanakapura: Acchalu, Honniganahalli and surrounding villages. Sidlaghatta/Chintamani: Melur and Jangamakote.
Why the Outages?
BMRCL and KPTCL have stated that these shutdowns are a duty of care in "Urgent Maintenance Work." This involves the regular servicing of substations that occurs every three months, the stringing and connecting of new transmission lines and the upgrade of transformers to preserve the reliability of the grid in the upcoming high summer supply.
Advisory for Residents. Plan in Advance: Finish pumping water, doing household chores by 10 AM. Charging Devices: Make sure your laptops, mobile phones and power banks are completely charged, particularly for the working-at-home generation.
