A Dazzling Spectacle

To kick off the festivities, the Brigade Road Shops Association has invested approximately ₹15 lakh in colorful, attractive lighting installations across MG Road, Church Street, and Brigade Road. The vibrant lights are expected to draw huge crowds, including families and tourists, looking to soak in the festive atmosphere.

Safety First: Lessons from Recent Incidents

In light of the recent tragic fire accident at a pub in Goa, the Association and police officials are leaving no stone unturned regarding public safety. Following a series of meetings between traders and police departments, several strict measures have been proposed to prevent any untoward incidents or overcrowding.

Key Guidelines and Restrictions for December 31st:

  • Traffic and Pedestrian Control: The Association has suggested closing both sides of Brigade Road starting at 7:00 PM on December 31st.
  • Restricted Entry: Suggestions have been made to close the junctions at Church Street, Rest House Road, and Brigade Road to all vehicles and unauthorized public movement to manage the density of the crowd.
  • One-Way Movement: To prevent a stampede-like situation, a strict one-way entry and exit system will be implemented. Public entry will be allowed from Kaveri Emporium, while the exit point will be directed towards Opera House.
  • No Street Vendors: To keep the walkways clear, no pushcarts (talla gadi) or basket sellers will be permitted on the streets on New Year’s Eve.
  • Strict Shop Protocols: No person will be allowed to sit in front of shops or establishments on Brigade Road. Furthermore, all basements of commercial buildings must remain closed to avoid unauthorized gatherings or safety hazards.

The Bengaluru Police are expected to deploy a heavy contingent of personnel, including drones and CCTV surveillance, to monitor the massive influx of revelers. Women, children, and youth are expected to visit these iconic spots in record numbers this year.
