A shocking incident of family violence has been reported in Girinagar, where an elderly mother was allegedly attacked by her own son during a dispute over family property. The incident falls under the jurisdiction of the Girinagar Police Station, where a case has now been registered.
According to police sources, the victim, identified as Lakshmi, is a senior citizen and mother of three sons. Her husband and second son had passed away earlier, leaving the family property to be disputed between the eldest son Ramesh and the youngest son Prakash.
Reports suggest that the youngest son, Prakash, had approached the court in 2016 seeking division of the property. The case has been ongoing in court since then, with tensions reportedly continuing within the family.
On Thursday, Prakash allegedly arrived at the family house and started an argument with his elder brother Ramesh regarding the property dispute. During the confrontation, he reportedly attacked his brother and damaged household items, breaking several belongings inside the house.
When their elderly mother Lakshmi attempted to intervene and stop the fight, Prakash allegedly assaulted her with a walking stick, striking her on the head. The attack left the elderly woman severely injured and bleeding.
Ramesh immediately contacted the emergency helpline 112 and rushed his mother to the Jayanagar General Hospital for treatment. Doctors said the elderly woman suffered a serious head injury and is currently battling for her life in the hospital.
Following the incident, Ramesh filed a formal complaint against his brother at the Girinagar Police Station. Police have registered an FIR against Prakash and launched an investigation into the case.
Authorities are gathering statements from family members and neighbors while further legal action is expected as the investigation progresses.
The incident has once again highlighted the tragic consequences of property disputes within families, which often lead to prolonged legal battles and, in some cases, violent confrontations.
