A massive fire broke out at a vehicle garage in Thanisandra in Bengaluru and destroyed about 25 parked cars and caused significant damage to nearby residential buildings in one of the worst incidents.
There were no injuries or casualties as firefighters were able to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to nearby housing towers.
The fire took place in the early morning and the thick black smoke filled the sky, creating panic among local residents. There were residents running out of their homes when they saw the flames engulfing the garage, and emergency services were immediately alerted, officials said.
Fire tenders from nearby stations arrived within minutes and launched a full firefighting effort. The flames burned for several hours, and the fire did not spread to other buildings, officials said.
According to initial reports, the fire began inside the garage where several vehicles were parked for repairs and servicing. Within a short time, the flames rapidly spread from one vehicle to another, fueled by combustible materials and vehicle fuel tanks.
By the time firefighters had extinguished the fire, nearly 25 cars were completely destroyed, leaving behind charred metal frames.
The cause of the fire is not yet clear, according to officials. Experts are investigating whether the fire was triggered by an electrical short circuit, mechanical failure, or another factor, the Fire and Emergency Services Department said. A forensic examination of the site is also expected, they said.
Residents living nearby described hearing loud popping sounds as tyres burst in the heat. The smoke filled the area, and police cordoned off the location and told people to stay away until the fire was completely out.

The incident temporarily disrupted traffic in the Thanisandra area with emergency vehicles on the roads during rescue operations. Traffic management by police personnel and ensuring public safety were handled by firefighters throughout the operation.
The garage owners and vehicle owners are now assessing the extent of the losses. The financial loss is expected to be large, and officials said they were thankful that no employees, customers, or residents were trapped in the building when the fire broke out.
Fire safety experts again spoke about the need for frequent electrical inspections, safe storage of flammable materials, and fire detection systems in commercial garages. Such preventive efforts would decrease the risk of a similar incident in the future.
All parties involved are still investigating, and appropriate action will be taken if any negligence is found, the statement said.
