Bengaluru Tragedy: Infant Drowns in Bucket, Mother Dies by Suicide in Shock

A sad family story came from Bengaluru, where an 11-month-old baby drowned in a bucket and the mother, who was also there, committed suicide because she too was unable to bear the death. It happened close to Bairaveshwara Nagar, and Chandra Layout Police found two deceased individuals: Pratibha (29), a software worker, and her newborn son, Agastya.

Pratibha had been staying home all week, and they say she was tired of dropping her clothes back and forth as her clothes hung up in a laundry area. Pratibha came back and found her baby unresponsive, her eyes burning so far away that she fled from the child. After she realized what had happened, she wept all day and she had extreme emotional trauma, and the whole situation was quite distressing.

A key was made and when her husband came home from work that night, Mahantesh found the door locked, but he was able to fix the back-door lock with another. He went inside with a spare key, and found Pratibha hanging herself in the house. An emotional note found in that house says Pratibha took some blame for the child's death. She was clearly feeling guilty and she held her baby’s death very much to blame.

If Pratibha hadn’t been there, investigators believe she’d have attempted something else but then had to resort to this extreme tactic. Police officials with Chandra Layout Police were at the scene first and conducted an initial assessment. A case has been filed and all the facts relevant to the incident are being investigated.

This is an example of dangers that young babies and toddlers grow up in. Even a tiny amount of standing water is a source of danger. Careful monitoring in childhood will be key to understanding how far we come from it as well in family relationships in case some unexpected disaster occurs.

Trauma and self-blame often lead to mental disease within us; therapists are called in to help in these ways, as most experts believe. Some officers have suggested to families to take precautions at home: secure bathroom facilities and water must be stored at a safe location. This tragedy has led to an emotional rollercoaster, bringing home how one can have a tragedy and at the same time take care of them so quickly and with the right resources to protect, implement safety measures and care for our people, too.
