Residents throughout significant regions of Bengaluru are advised to plan for an extreme interruption of the water supply during the emergency maintenance undertaken by the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB). A 24-hour water cut shall occur starting from the morning of 5 February 2026.
The interruption is needed, BWSSB Chairman Dr. V. Ram Prasath Manohar said, to help link up large diameter, 1200 mm and 700 mm pipelines. Therefore, the pumping stations for Cauvery Water Supply Scheme Stages I and II will be shut down completely. The BWSSB has declared there is an urgent water shutdown in many residential and commercial zones of the city to complete what it calls “essential linking works” for the city’s aged pipeline infrastructure.
The shutdown would start at 6:00 AM on Thu, 5th February and will be over at 6:00 am on Fri, 6th February.
Why Is the Water Supply Being Stopped?
The maintenance includes sophisticated engineering to connect 1200 mm and 700 mm diameter pipes. The pumping of Cauvery water from the main reservoirs must be stopped in order to secure the safety of the workers as well as the entire system. The Chairman urges citizens to preserve adequate water reserves and use existing supplies judiciously.
Major Affected Areas
The disruption will affect a large portion of South and Central Bengaluru. Key areas include:
- South Bengaluru: Banashankari (Stages 1, 3, 5, 6), Jayanagar (all blocks), JP Nagar (1st, 2nd, 3rd Phases), Padmanabha Nagar, Uttarahalli, Kumaraswamy Layout, Chikkallasandra, Yelachenahalli.
- Central & East: Koramangala (2nd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th Blocks), Madiwala, Shanthinagar, Richmond Town, Austin Town, Victoria Layout, Domlur and Indiranagar areas like Cambridge Layout.
- West: Magadi Road, Chamarajpet, Srinagar, Hosakerehalli and Ittamadu areas.
- Hospitals & Institutions: NIMHANS, St. John’s Hospital, & Command Hospital.
