A shocking murder case was reported in Bhubaneswar’s Nayapalli area after a 26-year-old woman died after her husband attacked her with a frying pan, police said. The incident took place at Brit Colony in Gada Sahi area overnight on Wednesday. Police have arrested the husband of the woman, and are investigating the cause of the death.
The deceased woman, Banasmita Swain (26), was identified in reports as Banasmita Swain and her husband Sarbeswar Pradhan, 27, has been arrested by Nayapalli police. The alleged assault happened after a heated argument between the couple, police said. Investigators said the woman sustained serious injuries to her head after she was hit in the head by a frying pan.
According to reports, it took place at the couple's home at 7 pm. Neighbours heard screams from the house and rushed to the scene. When they got to the house, they found the woman dead. The husband was detained by neighbours before police arrived and took over the investigation. Police and forensic investigators were there and collected evidence.
Police also seized the frying pan used in the attack. A bloodstained pan was recovered from the couple’s bedroom and taken as evidence. The woman’s body was sent to Capital Hospital for a postmortem examination as authorities now probe the cause and circumstances of her death.
The actual motivation behind the purported attack is not yet clear. The accused and the family members are being questioned as part of the investigation, the police said. A Nayapalli police station official confirmed that a murder case has been filed and that further investigation is in progress.
