A skeleton-like object was found among scrap materials during a cleanliness drive in Central Delhi that made police start an investigation into the source, they said.
The discovery was initially alarming because it looked like a human skeleton. However, it was later found out by the scrap dealer that he had bought the object from a school, he said.
And now police are trying to determine if it’s a real human skeleton or a dummy used by the school for teaching purposes.
Scrap Dealer Statement Under Verification
According to the preliminary information, the scrap dealer told investigators that the skeleton-like object had come from a school.
The school is said to have acquired the skeleton for educational demonstrations, where such models can be used to teach students about human anatomy and the skeletal system.
Police are now checking this answer with the scrap dealer as well as with the school administration.
At the moment, we have not established that the object is human remains. The nature of the object will have to be confirmed before any conclusion can be drawn.
Police Checking School Records
The investigation will be to see how the object reached the scrap dealer and whether it was an educational specimen or a manufactured anatomical model.
Officials are checking the school's records and talking to the administration to check whether the institution had such a skeleton for teaching purposes.
If the object is an educational model, the incident would primarily concern the disposal and movement of school material rather than a case of unidentified human remains.
If it is found to be an actual human skeleton, however, investigators would need to establish where it originated and how it came into the possession of the scrap dealer.
No Confirmation of Human Remains Yet
The most important point in the case is that the object has not yet been confirmed as a real human skeleton.
The object had its first appearance but the police are still checking it out. A description of it as a “human skeleton” might be misleading until the authorities or forensic inquiry is in place.
