A light-hearted exchange over Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar’s scarf style turned into a playful verbal exchange between BJP MLAs and the Chief Minister during proceedings in the Karnataka legislature.
Shivakumar is known for his highly distinctive dressing style, with the use of designer scarves. His fondness for luxury accessories has been discussed in politics; various lists of his favorite brands (Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Ferragamo) have been mentioned.
According to the report, BJP MLAs were teasing Shivakumar on his scarf trend. The Chief Minister said that the scarves he wears are gifts from people and he does not know their prices. He suggested that if the legislators wanted, they could take one as a gift from him.
The BJP members then replied that they did not want that particular scarf and instead asked for a Louis Vuitton scarf.
The exchange brought a lighter tone to the political arena and highlighted an issue that has occasionally featured in Karnataka political discourse: Shivakumar’s public image and his fetish for luxury fashion accessories.
The Chief Minister’s use of designer scarves has drawn political attention in the past. In August 2026, the Karnataka BJP criticised Shivakumar after he spoke about getting a ₹50 haircut with a reference to luxury accessories he wears (Louis Vuitton scarf, Rolex watch and Cartier watch). India Today also reported that Shivakumar and his dependents had declared total assets of around ₹1,413.78 crore in his 2023 Karnataka Assembly election affidavit.

The latest scarf exchange seems to have been made in a lighter vein, but it speaks to the way personal style and public image can become part of political exchanges in government. Shivakumar’s designer accessories have been seen on the market publicly on several occasions, and his scarves are now a political banter topic.
The reference to Louis Vuitton is also unusual since the luxury fashion house has been associated with Shivakumar’s public appearances. He had even worn a Louis Vuitton stole during a visit to Bengaluru and was also known to like luxury scarves and watches.
The latest episode therefore combines political humour with an already familiar topic around the Karnataka Chief Minister’s public style.
