According to police, the arrested accused are Balamurugan (21), Joshwa (19) and Kishore Kumar (19). They have been arrested under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

The deceased, Yancy, was a Sri Lankan refugee in Tamil Nadu’s Villupuram district. Yancy and her friends were dancing in a private bar when a verbal clash erupted with another group of men, the police said. Security personnel at the bar intervened and separated the two groups.

But the clash continued outside the premises, and bouncers ordered both groups to leave the area. Later, as Yancy and her friends were riding away on a two-wheeler, they saw the same group of men travelling in a car, they said.

Yancy and her companions then threw stones at the car, angering the occupants, police said. The car driver had then chased the two-wheeler and deliberately struck it from behind, investigators say.

The impact was strong, sending Yancy off the scooter into the road and onto the ground. She suffered fatal injuries and died on the spot, said police officials.

A 17-year-old friend who was going with her suffered serious injuries and is now in a hospital and still in critical condition.

Yancy’s family has demanded the strongest punishment against those responsible for the incident. Meanwhile, the police are inching closer to finding and apprehending the suspects.

Authorities also filed a case against the owner of the bar for permitting underage individuals to enter the bar in a more general investigation into the incidents.

The shocking case has sparked outrage and renewed concerns about violent confrontations, road rage, and safety around nightlife venues in Chennai.
