A shocking case of domestic violence has emerged from Chennai, where a 29-year-old woman was brutally attacked with acid by her husband in the Pallavaram area. The incident has left the victim with permanent vision loss in one eye, raising serious concerns about women’s safety and domestic abuse.
The victim, identified as Sana Fatima, had married Mohammed Ali in 2020 after a love relationship. The couple has a four-year-old son. However, their marriage reportedly turned abusive over time, with Mohammed Ali allegedly addicted to alcohol and frequently subjecting his wife to physical and mental harassment.
Due to the continuous abuse, Fatima had moved out and was living with her mother. She had also filed for divorce in court, which is believed to have enraged her husband.
On March 15, while Fatima was walking alone near her mother’s residence, Mohammed Ali allegedly approached her and threw acid reportedly a toilet cleaning substance directly onto her face. Despite her desperate attempts to escape, he is said to have chased and continued the attack.
Hearing her screams, local residents rushed to her aid and intervened, preventing further harm. She was immediately shifted to a nearby private hospital for emergency treatment.
Doctors confirmed that the acid severely damaged her left eye, leading to permanent loss of vision. The attack has left her with serious injuries and long-term trauma.
Police from Pallavaram have registered a case and launched a manhunt for the accused, who is currently absconding. Authorities have assured that strict action will be taken once he is apprehended.
This horrifying incident once again highlights the urgent need for stronger action against domestic violence and acid attacks, as well as better protection mechanisms for women facing abuse.
