Chennai Power Cut On February 8: TANGEDCO announces 5-hour Power outage

In a bid to ease out the burden for an upgrade of core infrastructure and preventive services, TANGEDCO has notified a scheduled power cut for some quarters of West Chennai on Sunday, February 8, 2026. The outage will last for five hours and will affect predominantly industrial nodes and some residential neighborhoods. This follows a week of heavy service work, and places in the city including Thirumudivakkam, Karambakkam have experienced significant outages and there were similar outages on Friday and Saturday, reports said.

Shutdown Schedule  

  • Date: Sunday, February 8, 2026  
  • Timing: 09:00 AM to 02:00 PM  
  • Reason: Essential maintenance work and infrastructure upgrades by TANGEDCO.

List of Affected Areas  

Unlike weekday shutdowns that tend to blanket part of town, the Sunday outage is concentrated. These include the power suspension expected around the following areas:

1. Ambattur (Residential):  

  • TI Cycle 3rd Main Road  
  • 6th Street to 9th Street  

2. Ambattur Industrial Estate:  

  • Mahatma Gandhi Road (4th, 5th, 6th, 11th and 12th Streets)  
  • Kamaraj Nagar Main Road  
  • SIDCO Industrial Estate  
  • Railway Station Road (5th, 6th and 7th Streets)  

TANGEDCO also provides assurance to residents that if the maintenance work is performed early, power supply will be restored immediately before the 2:00 PM mark.

How to Prepare for the Sunday Outage  

With this outage taking place over a weekend, it may affect personal and household home maintenance and computer screens entertainment for users. Here are a few tips:

  • Charge Early: Get all cell phones, laptops, and emergency lights fully charged by Saturday night.  
  • Complete High-Power Tasks: Prepare heavy appliances (washers, vacuums) and use before 9:00 AM.  
  • Stay Updated: Real-time status is also available for residents to report local faults by calling the TANGEDCO helpline at 94987 94987.

Why a Sunday Outage?  

These works in the Ambattur Industrial Estate are being conducted on a Sunday to reduce the impact on high-productivity industrial units typically with lower work activity or weekly offs on that day.
