TNEB said that we will have a scheduled power outage in several parts of Chennai and its suburban areas due to regular maintenance on electricity substations in the region. Monthly maintenance at power substations is scheduled to be done. All the affected areas should have been prepared for it in advance, as the power supply will be temporarily suspended during the maintenance period for some parts of Chennai and the suburbs.
The announcement comes at a time when electricity demand in Tamil Nadu is high. Despite the peak summer season having ended, hot and humid weather conditions are still prevalent in many areas. The increased use of fans, air conditioners and other cooling appliances has pushed electricity consumption to high levels.
Residents of Chennai, and other cities and sub-populations in the vicinity also reported frequent power outages, especially at night. Public anger has fuelled the protests over the frequent power outages.
The electricity board is always performing maintenance of substations regularly for power to be reliably distributed, and they are serviced and inspected as part of the regular maintenance schedule. In order to minimise inconvenience, affected areas are notified in advance.
According to the latest notification, power supply will be suspended from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM tomorrow in certain parts of Thiruverkadu and Pallavaram.
The most affected areas in Thiruverkadu are Sothuperumpedu, Kirthalapuram, Puthur, Kummanur, Angadu, Arumanthai, Veichur, Vellivoyal, Kandigai, Marampedu and the surrounding area. Power supply will also be interrupted in Kaveri Nagar, PH Main Road, Jamal's Apartment and surrounding areas.
In the Pallavaram division, the outage will affect a large number of residential and commercial areas, including Pammal, Balaji Nagar 3rd to 18th Streets, Subramania Bharathiyar Streets, A.N. Pandian Street, Thiruvallur Street, Kumaran Street, Thirupurasundari Street, Brindavanam Street, Thirumurugan Street, Raghavendra Street, Anna Street, Periyar Street, Babu Reddy Street, Radhakrishnan Street, Tolkappiyar Street, Anna Salai, Market Road, Rajangam Street, NSK Street, Kannadasan Street, Arumugam Street, Aravindan Street, Suriyamman Kovil Street, Easwaran Nagar, Ayyappa Nagar, Swaminathan Nagar, Moses Street, and several others.
Other areas that will also experience power interruptions include Pozhichalur Main Road, Agatheeswarar Nagar, Ramanathan Nagar, Bajanaikoil Street, Chithirai Nagar, Kakkanji Street, Pozhichalur, Prem Nagar, Bharathi Nagar, Ponnurangam Nagar, ECTV Nagar, Kalliamman Nagar, Thirumoolar Street and Radhakrishnan Salai.
The officials said electricity supply is expected to be restored when maintenance work is completed by at least 2:00 PM. Recovery times for restoration will be determined by the work and weather.
The residents and businesses in the affected areas need to plan their activities and ensure that the crucial devices are ready for the outage before it occurs.
