A significant political engagement, Karnataka Chief Minister Shri D.K. Shivakumar met Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi in New Delhi today in a first official meeting since Shivakumar came to power as the state’s Chief Minister. The meeting was described as good, constructive and forward-looking with a focus on Karnataka’s long-term development agenda.
The discussions were about infrastructure development, investment promotion, urban mobility solutions, irrigation projects, innovation ecosystems, and welfare projects to make the lives of the people living in Karnataka better. Shivakumar said the state will continue to evolve and will do so in a way that is inclusive, and Karnataka must continue to be on the leading edge in India’s development.
In the meeting, Karnataka’s position as a key player in India’s growth story was reinforced and the Chief Minister said that cooperation in federalism is key for the achievement of common national goals, and the Union and the state governments should be working together to develop opportunities and create a more inclusive environment to bring the people of Karnataka closer together.
But the meeting was symbolic, symbolic of the new relationship between Karnataka and the Centre. Shivakumar’s emphasis on collaborative governance is emblematic of his desire to strengthen Karnataka’s relationship with the Union government and ensure that all infrastructure, irrigation, and welfare development are supported.
The Chief Minister also made the point that a stronger Karnataka will only contribute to a stronger India and that it is the state-level progress that is the key to progress. His view is in line with the larger story of cooperative federalism, with states and the Centre working in concert to achieve sustainable growth.
Finally, Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar’s meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi is a very important step in Karnataka’s development journey. It would be appreciated if Shivakumar is doing everything to bring together the people of Karnataka and India (infrastructure, innovation, welfare) in the right way to create a better future for Karnataka and India at large.
