The new revision will be part of the monthly fuel price adjustments by oil marketing companies (OMCs). With the increase, commercial establishments in the national capital will see a rise in operational expenses, which will eventually affect food prices and service costs.

The increase applies to 19-kg commercial LPG cylinders used in restaurants, food stalls, hotels, and other businesses. Industry experts say adding on to the existing cost of raw materials, transportation, and labour may put pressure on those already dealing with it.

While commercial consumers have been affected by the latest revision, there has been no change in the price of domestic LPG cylinders used by households. The government and oil companies have kept household cooking gas prices unchanged, which is some relief for residential consumers.

Commercial LPG prices have seen several revisions in the last few months, due to fluctuations in international crude oil prices, supply concerns, and global energy market volatility. Commercial cylinder rates increased quite a bit in the past year as global fuel prices rose, and geopolitical tensions have also led to a rise in energy prices.

Business owners - particularly in the food and hospitality sector - have expressed concerns that repeated LPG price hikes are increasing their operating burden. Several restaurant associations have warned that continued increases in fuel costs could force businesses to revise menu prices to maintain profitability.

Fuel prices, including LPG rates, are generally reviewed at the beginning of each month and are affected by foreign energy prices, currency movements, transportation costs, and market conditions.

The latest Rs 42 increase in commercial LPG cylinder prices will be closely watched by businesses across Delhi as further hikes can have a direct impact on the cost of food services and other commercial operations in the coming weeks.
