Gopal Nayak, who is known more closely as the close associate of Karnataka Home Minister Dr. G. Parameshwara and former General Secretary of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC), was seriously injured in the attack in Karnataka.

According to initial observation, a group of five or six attackers ambushed Nayak and attacked him with sharp weapons in a pre-planned raid. The investigators think that the action may have been driven by contract killers from Goa.

The disturbing images from the CCTV images also show that the attackers had approached and initiated the attack so the public outcry is increasing rapidly. Social media has since circulated the video and the issues of law and order in the region have become increasingly public at large.

Nayak was rushed to a hospital and is at a medical center in Manipal currently. His condition is currently being closely monitored, doctors said.

Police officials acted quickly, and four people have been arrested in connection with the case. Investigation of the motive behind the attack is still in progress at the time of publishing and it is not clear if there were more people involved.

The incident happened in Ankola in Uttara Kannada district. There are already more security measures put into place in that district to ward off any other bad event from taking place.

Senior officials said at a meeting they have assured that there is a very thorough inquiry and all those behind the attack would be brought to justice. Political leaders from other sides have condemned the attack and called for strong action and extra protection of public representatives.
