The Delhi Police arrested three people and seized around 683 kg of banned firecrackers worth ₹35 lakh from the Budh Vihar area on Thursday, October 1, 2026.
The accused were allegedly involved in illegal storage and transportation of prohibited firecrackers, according to police. A Hyundai Santro car and scooter were also seized in the operation.
The police got information on the alleged illegal stock of firecrackers in the area, they said.
Police Raid at Godown.
The raid was carried out by the Special Staff team of Rohini district, led by team in-charge Sandeep Godara.
Police reached the location after receiving credible information of the same, said Shashank Jaiswal, Rohini Deputy Commissioner of Police. The three men were found in the godown to be loading prohibited firecrackers from a godown into a car and onto a scooter, he said.
The three men were subsequently arrested by police and a case was registered.
Who were the Three Accused?
Police have identified the arrested men as Chand, 49, Ram Kumar, 47, and Ravi, 35. All three live in Rohini in northwest Delhi.
Chand works as a building construction material supply contractor while Ram Kumar and Ravi are employed by him, the police said.
Investigators are looking into how the banned firecrackers got to Delhi and the purported scheme to distribute them.
Firecrackers Allegedly Procured From Haryana
Police said Chand told investigators that the consignment was procured from a factory in Rohtak, Haryana.
Police have issued a notice to the factory owner asking for an explanation regarding the supply of the prohibited firecrackers into Delhi. The owner has also been asked to join the investigation, said the police officer quoted by Hindustan Times.
Investigators will now look at the supply chain and whether someone else was involved in the storage or distribution of the seized material.
Plan to sell before Diwali
According to the police, Chand told investigators that the firecrackers had been bought more than a month before Diwali.
Police said they suspected that the accused planned to sell the firecrackers ahead of the festival at much higher prices than the actual rate, possibly two or three times their actual price.
The seizure comes as authorities step up the enforcement of the illegal storage and sale of prohibited firecrackers in Delhi ahead of the festive season.
Case Registered Against Accused
Police said an FIR was registered at Budh Vihar police station under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Explosives Act.
The case contains provisions about disobedience of an order promulgated by a public servant, fabrication of false evidence and common intention, as well as section 9(B) of the Explosives Act, according to the report.
The investigation is now focused on the source of the consignment, the intended buyers and if there were more people involved in the illegal trade as well.
