A resident of a housing society in Delhi's Dwarka has been booked for allegedly assaulting a security guard who asked him to make an entry in the visitor’s register before entering the building. But after the video went out on social media, police were quick to take action.
According to Delhi Police, the incident took place at Vijay Veer Awas Yojana (Kargil Flats) in Dwarka Sector-18A. The complaint was made by Ajit Singh Nandal on June 25, 2026, as the President of the Resident Welfare Association (RWA) at the Dwarka North Police Station.
What happened?
The accused, Tarun Kumar, arrived at the society at 11:22 am. Manoj, the security guard at Gate No. 1, asked Kumar to put in an entry in the visitor's register, which is a routine security procedure used to keep track of who enters and exits the residential complex.
Kumar got angry and became defensive; the police said he was told to comply with the security protocol. He assaulted the guard and illegally confined him, causing residents and staff working at the society to panic, they said.
The video was filmed on CCTV cameras at the entrance gate. The video instantly went viral on the Internet; accusations were made and the accused was held.

Medical Examination and FIR
Following the alleged assault, security guard Manoj was treated for a medical examination to assess the extent of his injuries. Police said the medical report would play a role in the investigation.
Based on the complaint submitted by the RWA president, CCTV footage and other preliminary evidence, the police registered FIR No. 214/2026 against Tarun Kumar under Sections 115(2), 127(2), 351 and 352 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, which cover offences such as voluntarily causing hurt, wrongful confinement and assault.
Police Investigation Underway
The Deputy Commissioner of Police (Dwarka) confirmed that a notice has been served on the accused to join the investigation. Statements of witnesses are being taken into account, CCTV footage is being examined in detail and all evidence will be looked at before further legal action is taken.
Police also said that the investigation is ongoing and other charges may be considered based on the outcome of the investigation and the medical examination of the victim.
Security personnel are facing ever more challenges
The incident has once more made security guards working in residential societies difficult. Security personnel are frequently the first point of contact for visitors and residents in major Indian cities and are responsible for enforcing society standards aimed at ensuring the safety of all occupants.
RWAs (Resident Welfare Associations) often require visitors to document their names before entering a housing complex in a bid to improve security and maintain records of visitors. Experts argue that such protocols are necessary and that security personnel should not be scared off or bullied for working.
The viral CCTV footage has reignited discussion on how frontline security personnel should be protected and there should be stern legal action against those who resort to violence over routine security checks. Many residents hope the case is a lesson to everyone that we as a people should be doing what we do in security and any attack on security staff will be taken to court.
