Two straight-up torrential rains for the past two consecutive days of unrelenting heavy rainfall have been a disaster to the national capital due to waterlogging in many parts of Delhi to spread throughout Delhi’s capital and waterlogging in various areas of Delhi is a source of heavy rains in heavy rainfall that has affected the city. The torrential rain has caused millions of people to be stranded in the nation’s capital city and the city’s roads were flooded and the city’s drainage systems were overwhelmed, turning major roads into rivers and citizens are struggling to navigate the flooding streets filled with water.
Janpath Market, one of the biggest commercial centres in Connaught Place, witnessed flooded shops and businesses that were overwhelmed and destroyed. The panic of traders and merchants in those places was so strong that they were able to scramble and save their products from extensive water damage. Walking through the city in flood waters is the reality as we saw images from the city and the streets and the walkways where everyone was totally underwater and the disaster had a very high financial and human toll. Sadar Bazar, one of India’s largest wholesale markets also had catastrophic flooding. Videos on the Internet showed large parts of the bustling market underwater and there was no traffic and vendors and customers were not able to cope with it.

The transportation network was not spared, with viral videos posted on Janakpuri West Metro Station where there was a lot of water in and around the station. Many commuters had difficulty getting into and leaving the transit center when rainwater was already pooling on entry and exit points. The city had so much to say and so did politics. In the Tilak Nagar constituency of West Delhi, AAP MLA Jarnail Singh was the only person seen in a boat traveling deep and flooded residential streets in a day of disaster, and it was an unusual and shocking sight that went viral on social media very quickly and was eye-opening to the reality on the ground.
The administrative fallout brought AAP Delhi Chief Saurabh Bharadwaj into action and took a harsh digital swipe at the ruling Rekha Gupta government. Sharing the boat ride video on social media that was widely circulated, Bharadwaj wrote on Facebook, “Venice Vibes- Special boat services in Delhi due to heavy waterlogging." Local authorities failed to build good drainage infrastructure for the monsoon season ahead. With people pumping water out of their homes and businesses, this recurring problem has brought urban planning and civic preparedness back to the fore again.
