Delhi-NCR Schools Closed Tomorrow? January 28 Rain Update & Holiday News

No official announcement from the Delhi government or NCR district administrations (Noida, Gurugram, Ghaziabad) declaring a school holiday for tomorrow, Wednesday, January 28, 2026, is available as of Tuesday, January 27, 2026. After heavy rain, lightning, and even an IMD “Red Alert” in some parts of North India has fuelled speculation of a closure, most schools are likely to operate as expected or with modified winter timetables.

Official Status: Schools are Still Open

Yet, despite heavy rain and thunderstorms in the National Capital Region today, educational authorities haven't issued any official order to close all schools. Without a circular from the Directorate of Education (DoE) or concerned District Magistrates, students and parents need to expect classes to continue as planned on Wednesday.

Weather Concerns and Alerts

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported an intense Western Disturbance with light to moderate rainfall, gusty winds, and isolated hailstorms over Delhi and its surrounding towns. Although some northern zones were given a "Red Alert," the forecast for Delhi-NCR indicates that by tomorrow the system is expected to become weak with clearing skies during the day.

Guidance for Parents and Action

Many private schools in the region may independently choose to move to online classes or postpone starting time if overnight, for example, they are dogged by waterlogging or extreme weather conditions. Parents are strongly advised to:

  • look at official school groups—Monitor WhatsApp groups or school apps for last-minute announcements.
  • Check official activities: Be sure to check the DM of Gautam Buddh Nagar (Noida) or Ghaziabad for local closures.
  • Plan the Commute: Expect traffic congestion and waterlogging on the road in low-lying areas during the morning.
