New Delhi Traffic Police issued traffic advisory for commuters in Delhi Gate, Rajghat, IP Flyover, Shantivan and all adjacent roads due to recent protest at Kisan Ghat. The advisory was issued for crowd control and public safety and to ensure smooth movement of emergency services in the national capital.
The advisory says that traffic congestion is expected on some of the main roads around the protest site and there are a lot of people going to the protest site and many more are expected to gather during the day. Commutes have been advised that commuters should plan their travelling ahead of time, take alternate routes, use alternative routes if possible and allow extra time to get there and back to the protest site as they will be there in advance.
Police personnel are also in place at strategic junctions to control traffic flow and direct drivers through the designated diversions. There are also traffic marshals to help reduce congestion and give emergency vehicles priority to go through as required.
The advisory indicates that traffic movement may be affected in and around Delhi Gate, Rajghat Intersection, IP Flyover, Shantivan, Ring Road stretches and nearby connecting roads. Depending on the crowd situation and security assessment, authorities may implement further restrictions or diversions throughout the day.
Those going to central Delhi or Old Delhi, or those who live along the Yamuna riverfront, have been asked to keep track of traffic and be updated with official traffic alerts as they proceed. Office-goers, students, tourists and commercial vehicle operators have been asked to make alternate travel plans to avoid delay.
While there are temporary restrictions, essential services such as ambulances, fire services, police vehicles and disaster response teams will continue to be prioritized in the affected corridors. Public transport services (Delhi Metro, city buses, taxis and auto-rickshaws) will also continue to operate with the exception of road transport as there will be delays due to diversions.
The Delhi Traffic Police added that the restrictions are preventive in nature and are to facilitate peaceful protest and to maintain public order and to minimize inconvenience to the general public. The traffic in Delhi is closely monitored and diversions may change as the crowd moves and road conditions change, they added.
If alternative routes are available the commuters should avoid unnecessary travel through the affected areas during peak protest hours, when possible alternative routes are available. Those travelling to hospitals, railway stations, airports, courts, government offices or educational institutions need to find alternative travel times to account for potential congestion.

People should also follow police at traffic lights or traffic-controlled areas and follow rules, and be patient, they are told.
Public gatherings in the national capital, in general, need some form of temporary traffic management to assure the safety of participants and commuters. Such arrangements ensure smooth transportation across the city and avoid traffic bottlenecks while emergency response systems remain operational.
Drivers driving near the protest site should be cautious, avoid stopping on busy roads and keep driving in the right lane. Commercial vehicles may also be directed via alternative routes based on the current traffic situation.

The Delhi Traffic Police said the advisory is to balance the constitutional right to peaceful assembly with the need to make sure traffic is flowing properly and that public convenience is not compromised. Traffic police will be on site all day and the situation will be reviewed to make sure everything is well.
