Amjad: A delivery agent, the name you associate with integrity and duty, is on TV and social media headlines after exceeding his responsibilities for a customer’s household and her pet.
The incident happened when Divya Unni, the owner, left her house door open while rushing to step outside. She was not aware of what was going on and had worked, increasing her home’s risk of theft or, worse, her pet cat getting out. Upon reaching the destination, a delivery was possible as Amjad saw that the door was open.
Initially, he assumed that there might be someone in the house. However, through watching closely, he found out no human was home. What interested him even more was the cat living in the house. Amjad did put various steps in place to reduce the risks. He did not only leave the package out or walk away, he carefully placed it on a table, and headed inside safely.
His behaviour meant the package would not be lost or stolen. But Amjad did not stop there. Worried about the unattended and open door and about putting the home and the pet in harm’s way, he quickly phoned Divya Unni at the spot. He’s a very dedicated man who stays out on guard until she comes, looking after the house.
Standing in the middle calmly on the gate to be sure nothing would come to the point that damage was done to the property or the pet cat. When Divya finally arrived home, Amjad was able to touch her heart with his honesty and dedication. Finding him standing guard outside her house with no help left her powerless, overwhelmed and thankful. She recorded the moment on her cellphone, then posted it later on Instagram, where it quickly spread.
Divya put this in her post, where she said it's an excellent comment, to thank Amjad for looking after not only her parcel, but her furry friend too. Thank you. She even urged the delivery company to compensate him if he deals honourably and has a spirit of honour. The video went viral, and thousands flooded the comments page with compliments. Amjad was described as a “real-life hero”, and many praised his sense of duty and kindness.
To pet owners who could easily identify with the pet being loose or endangered experience, it was especially moving to me. As such, the story is a timely reminder that kindness and honesty are as basic to everyday life as they were to me, and often more so to me than what anyone else could think of.
Given the prevailing belief in the service-free world we live in now, Amjad’s gesture illustrates that going the extra mile to serve a need can indeed be an act of kindness, and that it may not necessarily be on the basis that you should receive praise, but simply that you did it because it was the right thing.
