The incident occurred near Chakrasainpur village under the Dadri police station limits. Police sources confirmed that the pile-up began when drivers, struggling with near-zero visibility conditions, failed to maintain adequate safe distances and react in time to the vehicle ahead.

Scene of the Accident

According to officials, the collision rapidly escalated, involving cars, trucks, and other vehicles ramming into one another as a chain reaction unfolded in the thick fog.

  • Cause: The primary cause has been attributed to the unusually dense fog covering the expressway, which made it impossible for drivers to see more than a few feet ahead.
  • Casualties: Several individuals, including at least one woman, sustained minor injuries. They were immediately attended to by emergency medical services and have been reported to be out of danger. Thankfully, no fatalities have been confirmed in this particular incident.

Traffic Disruption and Cleanup Operations

The massive pile-up brought traffic on the busy Eastern Peripheral Expressway to a complete standstill, leading to long snarls.

Police and toll plaza management teams rushed to the scene to manage the situation. Cranes were deployed to remove the heavily damaged vehicles from the roadway, a crucial step in gradually clearing the congestion and restoring movement on the highway. Police personnel remain on site to regulate the slow-moving traffic and prevent further incidents.

A Repeated Winter Hazard

This collision serves as a stark reminder of the extreme dangers posed by dense fog on high-speed expressways during the winter season. Authorities have issued a fresh advisory urging motorists to exercise extreme caution:

"Motorists traveling on the EPE and other regional expressways are strongly advised to adhere strictly to reduced speed limits, maintain increased safe distances between vehicles, and utilize fog lights/hazard lights to enhance visibility for themselves and others."

The incident highlights the perennial challenge faced by commuters in the Delhi-NCR region during the intense winter fog, emphasizing the need for vigilance and reduced speed on the highways.
