Devkinandan Thakur’s Mitti Chulha Remark Amid LPG Crisis Sparks Debate

Recently a spiritual speaker Devkinandan Thakur’s comments brought up the social media's lively and passionate responses in recent days have stirred controversy as he appeared to defend traditional cooking for “mitti chulha” (clay stoves) recipes for traditional cooking in many villages that are known as “mitti chulha” (clay stoves) as they used to have all but been abandoned, during a deep LPG shortage on social media by many and not all sides in India.

In an ad copy of Thakur’s video, food cooked on traditional clay stoves is healthier than LPG-based cooking, he said. He also seemed like he was hinting some way back up the pathway of simpler, deeper lived so- called “Satya Yug” lifestyle.

LPG Shortage Concerns

The comments speak to a time also when many areas of India have a problem with commercial LPG supply due to lack of commercial distribution and are hitting households on a large scale along with restaurants & small business at an ongoing time. Many people have a problem due to rising cost, shortage and difficulty coming and going.

In that context, Thakur's comments have been characterized as promoting alternative alternatives with a roots in traditional behavior. Cooking on wood-fired or clay stoves over time has been a part of Indian culture. And they would bring a few of the advantages, like flavour and less reliance on modern technologies.

Social Media Reactions

Even for the comments who are posted anonymously, the comments will be heavily criticized. Most of the users were wary of back to traditional cooking patterns in the big city because they worried about air emission and convenience & size for the equipment. Critics say these suggestions can’t account for the reality of modern day living and cooking with LPG as the most reliable type of cooking medium.

There is another opinion on social media that the references are also linked with wider narratives about the LPG problems that continue to exist, and whether that shifts the discussion away from systemic challenges.

Health and Environmental Debate

While traditional cooking methods are culturally and culinary very good, in all manners, they do come with problems, say experts. Wood, or biomass fuels, is a source of indoor air pollution, if poorly controlled. On the other hand, LPG is generally recognized as an easier to use indoor process.

This conversation has grown into something bigger so that traditional practices, modern convenience plus health issues and environment impact are part of the larger discussion too.

Devkinandan Thakur’s words reopened conversations about India’s usage of energy, cultural practices in India and the reality of modern living. Some see benefits in returning to traditional energy methods, others are driven by a need for reliable, scalable and clean choices about such technologies.

Throughout the LPG issue we continue to concentrate on the supply to provide at its optimum level as well as to motivate discussion regarding sustainable and practical solutions to this problem.
