New Delhi: Samajwadi Party (SP) MP Dimple Yadav attacked the Central government yesterday for not talking about what she termed financial irregularities in the recent by-elections in Patna and Madhya Pradesh, and its stance is a sign of public anger towards the government’s failure to discuss what she termed as financial irregularities.
Dimple Yadav, the opposition leader and a vocal speaker in Delhi, said the Opposition wanted a detailed discussion on the issue because it involves public money and national assets.
The government has not provided sufficient explanations and has not taken up the issue in Parliament, she said.
"I think every common man is outraged by the theft that has taken place, and we want a discussion. But the government doesn't want to discuss it. This is the country's money. We wanted it to be used properly, but that hasn't happened," she said.
The Samajwadi Party leader also said the extent of the alleged losses is unclear and that this is the nation’s heritage and public resources.
"We don’t even know how much has been looted. Somewhere, this is the country’s heritage, and I think the government should take this very seriously," she added.
Her comments come as Opposition parties continue to pressure the government to hold debates in Parliament over issues they say are opaque and need greater accountability.
In view of recent by-election results in Patna and Madhya Pradesh, Dimple Yadav described the outcome as an encouraging result for the Opposition but advised not to take a broad view from the by-elections alone.
"It's a very good result, but compared to that, because it was a by-election. If there were regular elections in Uttar Pradesh, then different circumstances may arise. There might be good circumstances like this," she said.

She said the Samajwadi Party is ready for elections and thinks the by-poll verdict is a reflection of public sentiment against the ruling government.
"We are fully prepared. It shows how much anger there is among the people and how unhappy they are with the government,” Dimple Yadav said.
Political observers tend to consider by-election results as indicators of regional political trends, but the impact on the larger Assembly or Lok Sabha elections can vary depending on local issues, candidate selection, voter turnout, and alliances.
The Samajwadi Party is also positioning itself for the next major election campaign in Uttar Pradesh where it hopes to consolidate Opposition support.
Dimple Yadav’s remarks also highlight the Opposition's strategy of highlighting problems of governance, accountability, and public spending, which is consistent with the mood of public sentiment in recent by-polls.
