DK Shivakumar on Ramalinga Reddy Resignation Rumours: ‘Don’t Create Unnecessary Stories’

Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has tried to put an end to speculation over the supposed resignation of Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy, saying that media and political analysts must not write “unnecessary stories” about the situation. That has led to speculation on Reddy’s resignation as well as the potential political implications in the ruling Congress government, said Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar.

Shivakumar dismissed rumours of any major crisis in the state government and emphasised that there was no need to sensationalise the matter. “It is very naïve to create an unnecessary narrative around internal administrative problems, and the Congress government should remain stable and focused on governance,” said Shivakumar.

The comments came a week after reports that Ramalinga Reddy had declared he would resign from his ministerial post. The reports made for speculation of possible differences in the cabinet and the political situation in the state. But the Congress leaders have said there is no cause for concern and daily discussions in government are not signs of instability.

Shivakumar said the Congress leadership is functioning in a coordinated manner and all ministers are engaged in the same direction in order to achieve the government’s objectives. He said party leadership can handle internal issues and the public should not be affected by rumours or unverified claims.

Ramalinga Reddy is also one of the most senior leaders in the Karnataka Congress, and he has been involved in the organisation of and the election campaign of the party in the past years. Any speculation on his resignation naturally draws political attention because of his experience and influence in the state unit.

Political experts say that resignation rumours are rampant in Karnataka's turbulent politics and often surface when the government is going to take action on policy changes and administrative changes, or is in internal discussions. The Congress leaders, however, have always maintained that the government is still focused on development.

Opposition parties have attempted to use the reports to question the stability of the Congress administration. In response, ruling party leaders have accused opponents of spreading misinformation and attempting to create confusion among the public.

Shivakumar’s firm statement seems to be aimed at calming political speculation and underlining the message that the government is functioning normally. Governance and public welfare are the administration’s top priorities, and political rumours should not detract from ongoing development work, he said.

While Ramalinga Reddy's reported resignation is still getting much attention, the Congress leadership is talking about unity and not speculation. Party leaders have told the media and the public not to make conclusions based on speculation.

For now, the Karnataka government has maintained there is no political crisis, and Shivakumar's message is clear: stick to facts rather than rumours and avoid spinning stories about routine political developments.
