Doda Accident: 10 Soldiers Killed as Vehicle Falls into Gorge

In a sad incident that has spread through the entire country and shocked people, at least ten Indian Army jawans have died today, in a tragic situation that killed them. Their vehicle skidded off the road and plunged into a deep gorge in the Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir.

Tarnishing death toll of 10 Indian Army jawans involved in a tragedy involving an accident that has swept across the country, at least 10 Indian Army jawans lost their lives today in Jammu and Kashmir. The horrifying accident was carried out in the morning hours on the treacherous Bhaderwah-Chamba interstate highway in the deadly Bhaderwah-Chamba interstate.

The Army vehicle was on the road, according to initial reports, along a narrow and mountainous terrain when it broke off the road and plunged several hundred feet down a ravine.

Rescue Operations and Casualties

The Indian Army, Jammu & Kashmir Police and local volunteers immediately launched a joint rescue operation in response to the crash. Rescue teams arrived at the site to discover devastation and a scene of utter misery despite treacherous terrain and freezing winters. Fatalities: There were ten dead soldiers confirmed dead; 10 dead at the scene or shortly after they were picked up.

Injuries: 11 other staff members sustained injuries of varying severity.

Evacuation: The seriously injured soldiers were taken to the medical facilities nearby before being airlifted to the Military Hospital in Udhampur for specialized care.

The cause of the accident remains unclear, but officials suspect that poor road conditions and the steep, wet landscape typical of the province in January played a major role.

LG Manoj Sinha & National Leadership Mourners  

“We grieve the plight of the bravehearts.” Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, said in a statement. The LG paid tribute to the fallen soldiers in a statement read by reporters shortly after the incident and described their service as "exemplary". “Grieving the lives of our brave army man in a traffic accident in Doda.”

Their service was extraordinary and their supreme sacrifice for the country will never go down in history. My deepest condolences to the families of the departed. The Lieutenant Governor said, “We have taken the initiative to provide the best medical treatment for patients.”  

Political leaders of all stripes and senior military commanders have also delivered their condolences to the families of the martyrs in support of the high risk that soldiers encounter in such hostile geographies, even when it’s not combat. Again, the accident underlined the pressing need for additional safety measures and facilities on vital military routes found in the Himalayan region. The Army is said to have begun a Court of Inquiry to investigate whether any technical or human elements contributed to this disaster. The martyrs’ bodies will be sent to their proper hometowns with full military honors once the various formalities have been followed through for their repatriation.
