A shocking incident of alleged political high-handedness has emerged from Kamenery, Salem district, Tamil Nadu, where a former MLA of the AIADMK party, Arjunan, was caught on video aggressively assaulting an elderly woman during a protest against a road construction project.
The Construction Dispute
The controversy stemmed from a newly commenced road construction project in the area. The elderly woman began protesting the construction when the road alignment started encroaching upon the boundary near her house. She was demanding that the construction be diverted to adjacent government land to avoid affecting her property.
Upon receiving the information about the protest, former AIADMK MLA Arjunan arrived at the site. Instead of engaging in dialogue, the situation quickly escalated into a physical confrontation.
Assault Caught on Camera
The video of the incident, which has since gone viral on mobile platforms, shows the former legislator physically assaulting the elderly woman in a blatant display of power. The public witnessing the event expressed extreme outrage over the former MLA's aggressive and abusive behaviour towards an aged citizen who was merely protesting for her property rights.
The circulation of the video has intensified public anger, leading to widespread demand for strict and immediate action against the former MLA for the egregious act of violence. Local authorities are expected to file a case based on the viral footage and the woman's complaint.
