In the middle of heavy rains in parts of Gujarat, the Deputy Collector conducted an inspection of the Nayaka Dam in Chotila taluka of Surendranagar district to check the state of the reservoir and take stock of the preparedness measures.
The dam’s current status was discussed, and water management and safety protocols were discussed when the official visited and discussed with the authorities. The reservoir should be monitored and prepared to act in case the weather deteriorates.

The Nayaka Dam presently has 28.17% water storage and is not overflowing, officials noted. The reservoir was still safe, but monitoring is ongoing because monsoon activity is continuing, they said.
The Deputy Collector also visited Somasar and Palasa villages in the vicinity, where he met local officials and checked on the preparedness of the administration. Residents were advised to be alert, not to walk too near water bodies and follow advisories issued by the district administration.
The Deputy Collector appealed to villagers to keep an eye on the situation and cooperate with the government in the case of an emergency. Residents of low-lying and flood-prone areas should be closely monitoring weather conditions and report any signs of increasing water levels or other hazards to the authorities, he said.
To enhance the district disaster response, government departments have been instructed to remain on 24x7 alert. District officials also have been told to work closely with the district control room to make sure that communication and response are quick if things go bad.
The Gujarat administration’s inspection is part of the overall plan to monitor dams, rivers and vulnerable areas during monsoon season. District authorities are closely monitoring rainfall and reservoir levels to reduce the risk of heavy rains, waterlogging and even flooding.
Emergency teams are prepared for any emergency, and local governments are advised to have rescue equipment, communication systems, and relief resources ready for an immediate response, if needed.
